Breaking Bread Together
With our community!
Hello and warm greetings to all our cherished friends and neighbors!
We’re thrilled to welcome you to the
Kalama Sourdough Bakery Blog
—your go-to spot for everything sourdough. From our humble beginnings as a small homeschool project to becoming a local legend, it’s been our joy to serve this community with breads that are as rich in history as they are in flavor.
Sourdough is more than just bread for us; it's a symbol of resilience and connection, crafted with care and patience. Each loaf we bake carries the essence of our local heritage, infused with the natural beauty and spirit of Kalama. This blog is an extension of our bakery counter, where we share not just our products but also the stories, people, and traditions that make our work so special.
Here, we’ll take you behind the scenes to meet the dedicated team members, explore the artisan techniques behind our famous sourdough, and dive into the fun and challenges of sourdough baking. We'll also share tips on how to enjoy our breads at home, updates on new products, and stories from our community engagements.
But this isn’t just our story; it’s yours too. We invite you to join the conversation—share your thoughts and your own sourdough stories, and let us know what you’d love to see next. Together, let’s continue to build a community as vibrant and enduring as the flavors of our bread.
Thank you for being a part of our journey. Let’s break bread together.
Warm regards,
The Kalama Sourdough Bakery Team

Ghost shaped pizza,
Check out our pizza dough prep page to learn how to use our Sourdough Pizza Dough to perfect your favorite combos! For a spooky twist try shaping it into a ghost or pumpkin before adding your sauce and toppings to make it a perfect spooky centerpiece for your family game night!
Mummy Cinnamon Rolls,
1. Allow the dough to rest on the counter for up to an hour until it puffs up and fills the container.
2. Roll the dough into a large rectangular shape without adding any flour.
3. Spread a generous layer of butter, then cover it with a heavy layer of cinnamon and brown sugar.
4. Roll up the dough lengthwise and slice it into one-inch-thick pieces. Place the slices into a lightly greased pan.
5. Bake at 350°F for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
6. Allow the rolls to cool before decorating.
7. Finally, top with stripes of icing and some M&Ms or candy eyes!
Harvest Facottia Bread,
1. Allow your dough to rest on the counter for up to an hour until it puffs up and fills the container.
2. Grease a 9x13 pan.
3. Remove the dough from the container and gently stretch it with your hands into a rectangular shape, then place it into the pan.
4. Cover the dough with a towel and allow it to rise for 5-10 minutes. It won't grow much, but that's okay!
5. Use your fingers to press down and make ridges in the dough.
6. Drizzle with olive oil and top with your favorite toppings, such as tomatoes, peppers, olives, rosemary, thyme, and roasted garlic.
7. Bake at 350°F for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Garlic Butter Pull-Apart Bread,
The perfect appetizer or side for a delicious pasta dish, this garlicky, soft pull-apart bread is a must-try!
1. Allow your dough to rest on the counter for up to an hour until it puffs up and fills the container.
2. In a bowl, mix 4 tablespoons of melted butter with 3-4 cloves of diced garlic and a dash of dried rosemary.
3. Pull small chunks of dough and roll them into balls.
4. Dip the dough balls into your butter mixture and place them into a pan. (I used a 3x7 loaf pan, and it fit beautifully!)
5. Let the dough rise for 10 minutes before placing it in a 400-degree oven for 20-25 minutes.
